1What Titles & Meta controls
Titles & Meta is where you write the words Google shows for every page you never get around to editing by hand, and where you tell Google who Hermetic is, where the office is and which phone number is for sales. You set it once, and every page inherits it. The homepage gets its own title and description here, and you will rewrite the current one before you leave this module.
Rank Math SEO > Titles & Meta has ten tabs. Four of them do most of the work for a site like ours.
Global Meta
The separator, the fallback share image and the robots default that every other tab starts from.
Local SEO
Hermetic's name, logo, address, phones and hours, written into the page as Organization schema.
Homepage
The one title and description that most brand searches land on. Rewritten in section 6.
Post Types
The title template and default schema for every Page and every Post you do not edit by hand.
The other six tabs (Social Meta, Categories, Tags, Authors, Misc Pages and the per-tab
robots settings) mostly decide what stays out of Google. On the current site the author
archive, the tag archive and an uncategorized category are all in the sitemap.
This module switches them off.
Google chooses the title link and snippet it shows, and it can rewrite yours. A clear title in Rank Math is the strongest suggestion you can make, and Google's documentation says it uses the title tag as the main source. Write the title for the person searching, and let Google do what it does.
2From a template to a search result
Each Page and Post has a title in WordPress. Rank Math turns that into the
SEO title Google reads by running it through a template made of
variables. The default template is %title% %sep% %sitename%: the page
title, then the separator character, then the site name.
Three variables cover almost everything you will type in this module.
| Variable | What it prints | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
%title% | The page or post title | The title field in the WordPress editor |
%sep% | The separator character | Global Meta > Separator Character |
%sitename% | The site name | Settings > General in WordPress, and Website Name in Local SEO |
%excerpt% | The post excerpt, or the first words of the content | The excerpt field in the editor |
A template is the fallback. Any title or description you type in a page's own meta box (module 07) replaces it for that page. Set the templates so that a page nobody has touched still reads well.
3Global Meta
This tab sets the defaults every other tab inherits. Six settings matter for launch.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Robots Meta | Index only. Leave No Index, No Archive, No Snippet, No Follow and No Image Index unchecked | This is the sitewide default. Anything set to noindex here disappears from Google everywhere. |
| Advanced Robots Meta | Leave the defaults | They allow full snippets and large image previews, which is what a service page wants. |
| Separator Character | | (pipe) | The current site already uses it, so titles Google has stored keep the same shape after the move. |
| Capitalize Titles | Off | You control capitalization in the page title itself. Automatic capitalization turns "vCIO" into "VCIO". |
| OpenGraph Thumbnail | The 1200x630 share image you uploaded in the Setup Wizard (module 03) | Pages without their own image still show a branded card when shared on LinkedIn or in Teams. |
| Twitter Card Type | Summary Card with Large Image | Shows the share image at full width instead of as a thumbnail. |
| Noindex Empty Archives | On | A category or tag with no posts is a blank page. This keeps it out of Google without you tracking it. |
4Local SEO and the Knowledge Graph
The Local SEO tab is the plugin's name for the fields that become Organization schema: a block of structured data on every page that tells Google, in its own format, who runs the site, where it is and how to call. The crawl on 2026-09-29 found no Organization or LocalBusiness schema on the current homepage, so this is new information for Google, and it feeds the Knowledge Graph entry that can appear beside a search for "Hermetic Networks".
Everything you type here has to match the address and phone numbers printed on the site and on the Google Business Profile. Google's structured data guidelines require that the name, address and phone in the schema are the same ones shown on the page. Module 08 covers keeping them consistent.
- Organization. Hermetic is a company, so the schema type is Organization rather than Person. This one switch changes which fields appear below it.
- Logo. Rank Math wants a square image of at least 112 x 112 pixels. The hexagon mark from the brand kit fits; the horizontal wordmark does not.
- Address. Street, city, state and postal code as separate fields, and the country as the two-letter code
US. Type the address the way it appears on the Google Business Profile, suite number included. - Business Type. Pick the most specific type in the list. Professional Service is the closest fit for a managed IT provider. If a later version of the list adds a closer match, use it; if nothing fits, Organization is the fallback the documentation names.
- Phone Numbers. One row per number, each with a type. The sales line is typed Sales and the client line is typed Customer Service, which is how the site already labels them.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Person or Organization | Organization | Hermetic is a company. This turns on the address, phone and hours fields. |
| Website Name | Hermetic Networks | Google shows this as the site name above the title link. |
| Alternate Name | Leave blank | Only for an acronym people actually search. We do not have one. |
| Person/Organization Name | Hermetic Networks | The legal trading name, matching the Google Business Profile. |
| Logo | Hexagon mark, square, at least 112 x 112 px | Used in the Knowledge Panel and in Organization schema. |
| URL | https://www.hermeticnetworks.com/ | The www host is the canonical one on the current site. Keep it. |
| [email protected] | The address already published on the site. | |
| Address | 7637 Hull St #202, Richmond, VA, 23235, US | Matches the site footer. The same string goes on the Google Business Profile. |
| Business Type | Professional Service | Most specific match in the list for an IT services company. |
| Opening Hours | The hours the sales line is answered, per day | Not captured by the crawl. Enter the real hours; Google compares them with the Business Profile. |
| Phone Numbers | Sales: (804) 544-1048. Customer Service: (804) 545-3173 | Both numbers are on the site today with those roles. |
| Price Range | Leave blank | A dollar-sign scale means nothing for managed services pricing. |
| Geo Coordinates | Latitude and longitude of 7637 Hull St, in the form "lat, long" | Not captured by the crawl. Read them from the pin in Google Maps. |
| Google Maps API Key | Leave blank unless the contact page shows an inline map | Only the map shortcode needs it. Module 08 decides. |
| About Page | /about-us/ | Links the schema to the page that describes the company. |
| Contact Page | The contact page built in module 08 | Links the schema to the page with the address and phones on it. |
Multiple office locations and a list of served cities (areaServed) are PRO features. Hermetic has one office, so the free version covers it. The Virginia Beach and Lynchburg question is a page question, answered in module 08, not a schema question.
6Homepage title and description
The Homepage tab holds the title and description for the front page, the page a search for "Hermetic Networks" lands on. Here is what the crawl found on 2026-09-29.
| Field | Current text |
|---|---|
| Title | IT Support & Cybersecurity Services | Richmond & Virginia Beach |
| Description | Elevate your business with Hermetic Networks' expert IT services, IT Support & Cybersecurity Services in Richmond, Virginia Beach, Henrico, and across Virginia. |
Two problems. The title does not contain "Managed IT Services", which is the service we sell and the phrase the page map in module 02 targets. And the description spends its first word on "Elevate", repeats "IT services" twice and says nothing a business owner can check. Rank Math's snippet editor counts characters as you type and its guidance is about 60 characters for a title and about 160 for a description. Google shows what fits and may shorten either.
Title options
| Option | Title | Characters | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Managed IT Services in Richmond, VA | Hermetic Networks | 55 | The service and the city first, the brand after the separator. The plainest match for the search we want. |
| B | Managed IT Services & Cybersecurity | Richmond, VA | 50 | Keeps cybersecurity, which the current title leads with. Drops the brand because Google shows the site name above the link anyway. |
| C | Managed IT Services in Richmond, VA for 10 to 100 Staff | 55 | Names the client size the site already claims to serve, which filters out the wrong callers. Use only if that claim is one we stand behind. |
Recommendation: option A. It puts the exact phrase from the page map at the front and keeps the brand for the people searching the name. Character counts were done by hand; the snippet editor shows the live count.
Description options
| Option | Description | Characters | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Managed IT services for Richmond, VA businesses. Hermetic Networks handles your helpdesk, cybersecurity and Microsoft 365 so you stop losing nights to IT. | 154 | Leads with the outcome the site's own headline already promises (no more late nights on IT), then lists three services a buyer recognizes. |
| B | Richmond, VA managed IT services for businesses with 10 to 100 staff. Hermetic Networks runs your helpdesk, cybersecurity, backup and Microsoft 365. | 148 | Puts the client size up front so the wrong-sized company self-selects out. Same caveat as title option C. |
Recommendation: option A. Phone numbers stay out of the description; they belong in the schema and on the page, and they push the text past 160.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage Title | Option A above | Typed literally, no variables. This page gets a hand-written title. |
| Homepage Meta Description | Option A above | Same reason. |
| Homepage Robots Meta | Index | Never noindex the homepage. |
| Homepage Facebook Title, Description, Thumbnail | Same title and description, plus the 1200x630 share image | What a LinkedIn or Teams preview of the homepage shows. |
If WordPress is set to show a static page as the front page (Settings > Reading), Rank Math hides the Homepage tab and you set these values in that page's own meta box instead. The current site uses a static front page, so expect to do it there. The words are the same.
7Post Types: Pages and Posts
Pages and Posts each get their own tab with the same fields. Set the templates so a page nobody optimized still reads as a sentence, then override the pages that matter in module 07.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Single Page Title | %title% %sep% %sitename% | "Managed IT Services Richmond | Hermetic Networks". Service and brand, nothing wasted. |
| Single Page Description | %excerpt% | Pages rarely have an excerpt, so this falls back to the first words of the content. Every service page gets a written description in module 07. |
| Schema Type | WebPage | A safe default. Service pages get Service schema individually in module 07; the default should not claim every page is an article. |
| Page Robots Meta | Index | Individual pages such as thank-you pages get noindex in their own meta box (module 06). |
| Add SEO Controls | On | Shows the Rank Math meta box in the page editor. Without it, module 07 has nothing to work in. |
| Bulk Editing | Editing | Lets you change titles and descriptions from the Pages list without opening each page. |
| Link Suggestions | Off for Pages | The service pages link to each other on purpose, following the page map. |
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Single Post Title | %title% %sep% %sitename% | Same shape as pages. Posts already have descriptive titles. |
| Single Post Description | %excerpt% | Write a real excerpt on each new post and it becomes the description. |
| Schema Type | Article, with Article Type set to BlogPosting | The 148 existing posts are blog posts. This marks them as such without editing each one. |
| Post Robots Meta | Index | The post audit in module 10 decides which old posts come out. |
| Archive Title (the /news/ page) | News and Guides %sep% %sitename% | The default is the archive name and the site name. Naming what is in it is clearer. |
| Add SEO Controls | On | Same as pages. |
| Bulk Editing | Editing | Useful for the post audit. |
| Link Suggestions | On | Suggests older posts to link from a new one while you write. |
Other post types the theme or plugins register, such as Beaver Builder templates, get their own tab if they are public. Set them to noindex and remove them from the sitemap unless somebody can name a reason a visitor should land on one.
8Categories, Tags, Authors and Misc Pages
These four tabs decide which automatically generated pages Google may index. On the current
site the answer is too many. The crawl found 18 categories including uncategorized,
84 tags, and 3 author archives, one for the agency that built the site and one for the shared
info mailbox. Each of those is a thin page competing with the service pages for Google's
attention.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Category Archive Title | %term% %sep% %sitename% | Reads as "Cybersecurity | Hermetic Networks" if a category is ever indexed. |
| Category Robots Meta | No Index, until the categories are cleaned up | 18 categories with names like health, google and uncategorized are not pages we want ranking. Index them only after module 10 reduces them to a deliberate few with written descriptions. |
| Add SEO Controls | On | Lets you flip a single category back to index later. |
| Remove Snippet Data | Off | Only matters once a category is indexed. |
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tag Robots Meta | No Index | 84 tag archives are 84 near-empty pages. Tags help readers browse; they do not need to rank. |
| Add SEO Controls | Off | Nobody will optimize a tag page. |
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Author Archives | Disabled | Removes /author/jeffhermeticnetworks-com/, /author/infohermeticnetworks-com/ and /author/tech-pro-marketing/ from the site. Rank Math redirects them to the homepage. A single-company site has no use for author pages, and one of the three names an outside agency. |
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Date Archives | Disabled | /2024/03/ style pages duplicate the post archive. |
| Search Results | No Index | Internal search result pages should never appear in Google. |
| 404 Title | Page not found %sep% %sitename% | Plain wording for the browser tab. |
| Noindex Paginated Pages | Leave the default | The /news/ archive is short enough that its second and third pages do no harm. |
| Noindex Password Protected Pages | On | A page behind a password shows Google nothing useful. |
Disabling author and date archives here also drops them from the sitemap. Module 06 confirms that in the sitemap settings and takes out the thank-you pages.

noindexappears in the robots meta tag.
10Check yourself
A page has a title in WordPress but nobody has opened its Rank Math meta box. Where does Google's title link for it come from, and what does it look like?
AnswerFrom the Single Page Title template in Titles & Meta > Pages, which is
%title% %sep% %sitename%. The page title, the pipe, then Hermetic Networks. A title typed in the page's own meta box replaces it for that page only. Why does the Local SEO tab ask for the address in four separate fields and the country as "US" instead of one line?
AnswerThe fields become Organization schema, and schema stores an address as separate parts with the country as a two-letter ISO code. Google matches those parts against the Google Business Profile and the address printed on the page, so all three have to agree.
The current homepage description begins "Elevate your business with Hermetic Networks' expert IT services". Name two reasons to replace it.
AnswerIt leads with a word that says nothing checkable, and it repeats "IT services" twice in about 160 characters, spending space that could name a service or the outcome. It also leaves out "Managed IT Services", the phrase the page map targets.
You set Categories to No Index. A colleague says the blog will disappear from Google. Are they right?
AnswerNo. The posts stay indexed; only the category archive pages such as /category/cybersecurity/ are kept out. Posts and the /news/ archive are controlled on the Posts tab, which stays on Index.
What does disabling Author Archives do to /author/tech-pro-marketing/, and why do we want that?
AnswerRank Math redirects the author URL to the homepage and drops it from the sitemap. The page was a thin list of posts under an outside agency's name, competing with our own pages for no benefit.
Which settings in this module are PRO only, and does Hermetic need them to launch?
AnswerMultiple locations and the areaServed list of cities. Hermetic has one office at Hull St, so the free version covers launch. Whether to pay for PRO is decided in module 10.
